When you've already paid off a debt (or settled and paid it)
but collectors keep calling, you can stop the harassment by sending them a
letter that informs the collector that the account was previously settled and
is no longer collectable. In your letter demand collectors remove your account,
and all references to your personal information, from their records.
Additionally, your letter you say that you do not expect to hear from them
again but, if they call again you will consider any contact in violation of the
Fair Debt Collection Act and will immediately report their actions to your
State Attorney General and to the Federal Trade Commission and take any and all
legal action necessary to protect yourself.
